Using a core drill
or a hole saw is an efficient method to form a hole, as only a
small proportion of the material removed is actually cut (as
opposed to a drill bit), with the material removed, the core being
discarded at the end. The terminology *cut* correctly applies only
to certain types of cutter & material, and in general terms,
materials which form a chip are cut, and materials that do not are
ground away. Examples of this differential as as follows :
|
|
Metals,
plastics, woods fibreboards - are cut |
Masonry,
stone, porcelain tiles & glass - are ground |
